A geonet is a specialized type of geosynthetic material manufactured from high-density polymers, primarily High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE). It features a continuous, open-grid, net-like structure consisting of intersecting ribs that create regular apertures.Unlike geogrids, which are designed for structural reinforcement, geonets are engineered primarily for in-plane drainage and fluid transmission within soil, rock, and environmental engineering systems.

Three-dimensional drainage net (also known as three-dimensional geotextile drainage board or drainage net) is a new type of drainage geosynthetic material. Made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) through a special extrusion molding process, it features a unique three-layer structure.

The central reinforcing bars are highly rigid and arranged longitudinally to form drainage channels. The vertically crisscrossing reinforcing bars provide support, preventing the geotextile from embedding into the drainage channels. This ensures high drainage performance even under heavy loads. The double-sided bonded permeable geotextile composite provides comprehensive filtration, drainage, breathability, and protection properties, making it an ideal drainage material.

Polymer Base: Most geonets are extruded using HDPE (typically 95–97% by weight). This polymer provides high chemical resistance, tensile strength, and biological durability.Additives: Approximately 2–3% carbon black is added to the formulation. This acts as a stabilizer to protect the polymer from ultraviolet (UV) degradation during installation.Extrusion Process: Geonets are manufactured via a continuous extrusion process. Molten polymer is forced through a counter-rotating die, forming parallel sets of ribs that cross each other at fixed angles (usually 60° to 90°) to create a cohesive, three-dimensional structure.
